Who is driving instructor training for?

Driving instructor training is for people who want to qualify as an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI), whether you’re starting from the beginning or have already completed part of the qualification process.

How driving instructor training works

Qualifying as an Approved Driving Instructor involves three stages, and we provide structured training and support throughout the process.

Part 1 — ADI theory test: developing the knowledge required for the theory and hazard-perception assessment.

Part 2 — driving ability: preparing your own driving to demonstrate the high standard of vehicle control, judgement and road awareness expected of an instructor.

Part 3 — instructional ability: learning how to plan and deliver effective driving lessons, adapt your teaching to individual pupils and demonstrate your instructional skills.

Training is built around the stage you’re currently at, so whether you’re starting with Part 1 or already progressing through the qualification, we can focus on what you need next.
